Gina Raimondo’s high profile endorsement by Planned Parenthood and her following comments critical of rival Allan Fung on the topic of abortion have cost the Democrat at her Alma Mater, Lasalle Academy.
A spokesperson for the school told the Associated Press that Raimondo’s portrait was removed Thursday saying that Raimondo’s comments go against the teachings of the school.
Raimondo said after receiving Planned Parenthood’s endorsement that Mayor Fung, if elected governor, would “roll back the rights of women.” Fung renounced the accusations and even Bishop Thomas Tobin weighed in on the topic of Catholic politicians supporting abortion.
Raimondo was valedictorian of her class.
