Cleveland’s Emmanuel Clase (1-0) pitched the 10th and was credited with the win. Scott Barlow retired each of the three batters he faced in the bottom of the 11th, striking out the final two, to collect his first save.

Gabriel Arias’ single drove in Brayan Rocchio to give Cleveland a 7-6 lead in the top of the 10th, but Boston tied the game when Wong’s sacrifice fly scored Wilyer Abreu in the bottom half of the inning.

A walk to Ramon Laureano and back-to-back doubles by Will Brennan and Arias handed the Guardians a 2-0 lead in the second. Valdez cut Cleveland’s lead in half when he homered in the fourth, but the Guardians scored three runs in the fifth.

Freeman’s home run gave the Guardians a 3-1 lead. Steven Kwan (3-for-5) followed with a single, took third on an Andres Gimenez single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ramirez to make it 4-1.

Boston erased its 5-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the sixth. The inning included home runs by Casas and Wong before the Red Sox took a 6-5 lead on a two-run double from Rafael Devers, who left the game after the seventh inning due to left knee discomfort.

Cleveland tied the game against Kenley Jansen in the ninth. Freeman doubled with one out, took third on Kwan’s single and scored on a Gimenez single.
