Police have confirmed the teenage girl whose body was found hours after she went missing while snorkeling with her father in Narragansett has died.
The 14-year-old from Massachusetts had been swimming with her father near rocks between Hazard and Newton Avenue when she went missing for several hours. Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxsie says she was found submerged and unconscious in a pocket underneath he rocks.
“She was trapped in a section of rocks that wasn’t exposed until the tide went out,” said Hoxsie.
The Chief said one of his rescue teams was able to spot her fin in the water nearly three hours after she went missing. Hoxsie said she was found unresponsive.
“The fire department began CPR out of an abundance of caution […] and she was transported to South County Hospital.”
The name of the girl is being withheld pending complete notification of her family.
