Three Providence gang members were arrested in Newport after police conducted a month-long investigation into heroin distribution in the city.
The drug bust came after detectives identified Jose Campos, 20, as a drug dealer operating in the area and made a purchase for heroin. Tuesday afternoon, Campos returned to Newport with two other associates and was stopped on the Newport bridge after he committed an unknown traffic violation.
Police searched the car and discovered 28 grams of heroin and three handguns hidden in a secret compartment.
Campos and his associates -Jose Nunez, 26, and Joshua Wilcox, 28 – were identified as members of the Providence street gang known as “C-Block.”
All three were charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver and possession of a weapon while committing a crime of violence.
