PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The Providence Board of Licenses has voted to allow the reopening of a hookah bar that has been closed since a 22-year-old man was fatally shot outside of it last week.
The board ruled Friday that Pasha Hoohak Bar could reopen with a two-member police detail. The bar plans to reopen Friday night.
The state Department of Business Regulation ruled Thursday that the board needed to vote by Sunday afternoon.
Under law, the license board may shut down a licensee “in the public interest” for no more than 72 hours unless notice is given of an alleged violation. The board must allow a hearing to contest the closure.
Pasha was closed May 16 after Kevin Mann was fatally shot in a car outside the bar. No arrests have been made.
