Providence Schools Superintendent Dr. Susan Lusi announced Friday she will be retiring at the end of the school year.
In a statement, Lusi said, “It has been an honor to serve as superintendent and I am proud of our accomplishments in Providence, but now is the time for me to pursue other professional opportunities.”
Lusi has served four years as superintendent, and is credited with boosting graduation rates and cutting the number of dropouts from 21% to 14%.
Also in the statement, Mayor Jorge Elorza thanked Lusi for her service and said that he will begin the search for her successor immediately.
“I am committed to finding a dynamic leader for our school district who is worthy of continuing the progress made during Dr. Lusi’s tenure and who shares my vision for raising academic achievement in every school,” said Elorza.
Lusi said she looks forward to spending any future downtime with her family.
