After one hundred days as Mayor of Providence, Jorge Elorza says his efforts to fix the city’s winter-weathered, pothole-pocketed roads is his biggest accomplishment.
In an interview with WPRO’s Kim Kalunian, Elorza said that while he is proud of the team he has assembled at City Hall; his work on the city streets takes the cake.
“We were out there really proactively and aggressively addressing the potholes; and this year compared to last year, we had 32 [percent] fewer claims against the city for damages resulting from potholes,” said Elorza.
“I’m not declaring victory, we still need to do much more, but I’m really proud of what we’ve done in a short time.”
The Mayor said his biggest challenge so far has been balancing his family life with work.
“I’m very close with my family, my nephew, my niece, and frankly I really don’t get to see them much at all,” said Elorza “I’m not complaining this is what I signed up for.”
Elorza refused to give himself a letter grade on his first 100 days, saying that will be for others to decide.
