Like all good things worth waiting for, National Beer Day only comes once a year, and on April seventh, Americans raise their glasses in celebration of the first step towards repealing prohibition.
The unofficial holiday commemorates President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s signing the Cullen-Harrison Act into law on April 7, 1933. The act made it legal for breweries to begin producing beer so long as it remained at 3.2% alcohol. This was the first act legalizing a form of alcohol after the Volstead Act (prohibition) was passed in 1919.
Prohibition would be completely repealed later in 1933.
According to the Boston Herald, National Beer Day has grown in popularity due to the American craft beer renaissance and regional breweries.
So celebrate responsibly by grabbing a glass of Rhody made beer.
