Warwick Police are reviewing the Motel 6 on Jefferson Boulevard after multiple incidents involving drugs, guns, and prostitution have occurred on the premises.
Within the last two weeks, a meth lab operation and a sex trafficking scheme have been broken up and last July, the city’s SWAT unit was called in for a domestic incident involving a gun. Colonel Stephen McCartney told the WPRO Morning News with Gene Valicenti there have been even more incidents.
“Just over the last year, we’ve made 75 arrests,” said McCartney.
“Just our department alone we’ve conducted 26 filed interviews and we’ve responded to 79 incidents at that location.”
After the meth lab was discovered, McCartney tells WPRO Mayor Scott Avedisian grew concerned with the incidents at the motel and ordered the police to take action.
“He has directed me to conduct an administrative review,” said McCartney.
McCarney says pending the results of his review the city may revoke the motel’s license.
A message was left with Motel 6 for comment.
