Providence Police announced Friday they have concluded an investigation into an alleged abduction of a woman on Federal Hill and determined there has been no crime.
Police had been investigating a suspicious surveillance video of what appeared to be a woman being forced into a van by three suspects. Major David Lapatin says the case is no longer assumed to be an abduction.
“We are comfortable enough to now say it was not an abduction and we are dealing with the present matter as it is,” said Lapatin.
Investigators say they have learned the woman became upset during an argument with her boyfriend and threatened to kill herself, and ran off. Her boyfriend, with the help of his mother and step-brother pursued in the van and brought her back to keep her from harming herself.
Police are not pressing charges at this time.
