A Rhode Island payroll company owner has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for stealing over a million dollars in IRS taxes from small businesses and municipal agency.
Warren Hebert, 67, owner of Checkmaster Payroll Services pleaded guilty back in October to diverting $1,266,680 federal payroll taxes from at least seven small businesses operating in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and the Seekonk Water District.
In addition to his prison sentence, Herbert must also serve two years supervised release and perform 200 hours of community service.
