Rhode Island State Police say three men have been arrested after a stolen firearm was found in one of the suspect’s car.
According to State Police, the gun was discovered after troopers conducted a search of the vehicle following a traffic stop for speeding. A .22 Caliber Smith & Wesson-Walther pistol was found under the driver’s seat; the gun was reported stolen in Lanesborough Massachusetts in May of last year.
The driver, Paulo Correa, 24, of Hadley MA, was found to have had a prior conviction of for assault with a deadly weapon in 2008. Correa was charged on possession of stolen firearm, possession of a firearm after a crime of violence, and driving under a suspended license.
The other two passengers, Silvio Semedo, age 25 of Providence, and Jailson Varela, age 30 of Holyoke Massachusetts were also charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
After their arraignment, Correa was granted a $50,000 bond with surety, as was Varela. Semedo was granted a $30,000 bond.
