PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) – The new owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox expect to build a Providence stadium with their own money, but are looking at four different public-subsidy options they might request from the state and the city.
Providence lawyer James J. Skeffington and Boston Red Sox president Larry Lucchino lead the 10-member team of investors that owns the Red Sox Triple-A franchise. Skeffington tells The Providence Journal that the options include asking the state to give the owners as part of a stadium site the former Route 195 land now set to become a public park.
Skeffington says the owners must consider whether a stadium could be built on the proposed 195 park site and not interfere with plans that have set aside the land for managing stormwater runoff from other parcels.
