The National Weather Service has announced a belt of heavy snow is expanding across eastern Rhode Island and portions of southern Massachusetts.
Accuweather reports snow fall rates of up to two inches per hour can be expected as the storm moves across the state. The heaviest snow is expected late Saturday evening into Sunday morning before tapering off in the afternoon. Travel is not advised as wind gusts of up to 55 miles per hour will create near white out conditions.
Additionally, a wind chill warning will also be in effect starting Sunday at 4:00pm into Monday morning. Wind chill is expected to be around 30 below zero, Accuweather warns individuals who must be outside to cover up as frostbite could occur in as little as ten minutes.
