Representatives of state and local tourism entities gathered in Providence Tuesday to officially welcome German-based Condor Airlines to Rhode Island.
Starting June 18, Condor Airlines will begin offering twice weekly non-stop flights to and from Frankfurt Germany. Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian said Condor will help generate even more revenue for local economies.
“Our hotel occupancy rates continue to be very high; in fact 96 percent [last] July alone. And we know that this kind of service is exactly what we need to fill that niche market so that we can continue these high occupancy levels,” said Avendisian.
Flights will run every Monday and Thursday with a total flight time of seven hours and twenty minutes. The price of a one-way economy ticket will run under $400.
“We see this as a huge opportunity, it helps us build a critical mass; it’s the perfect partner to have for TF Green,” said Kelly Fredericks, CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation.
Flights will run through September 3, but Condor officials hope to extend the season by next year.
