It was only a few weeks ago that I made a casual remark to friends that so far it had been a bearable winter. Obviously I spoke too soon.
The blizzard was a big event…and we got lucky that most had power and the timing was such that we could tuck away in our homes and sit it out. The ensuing storm last Monday was a working day event and caused the normal cranky calls to the radio about snow removal on the highways.
But the real and legitimate dilemma is snow removal in the cities. Mandatory sidewalk clearance by citizens is bad policy. Parking bans without alternate side of the street options create impossible options for residents. New thinking needs to be employed by a new Providence administration that seems to think this is just too beneath the loftier goals they have for the people.
GOVERNOR RAIMONDO is certainly relieved that Ed Commissioner Deb Gist is leaving on her own. This prevents the governor from having to aggressively make good on probable promises to pop her made to the teacher unions during the campaign. And her mamby pampy language about involving parents, students teachers, et al in the process of creating “characteristics” of a new commish is either a snap of our undies or a complete lack of leadership vision. That position is as important as any to our economy and it will require further change agency..something the status quo protectors invited to the process will fight tooth and nail.
The governor has been busy with the change of guard on the Ed board and the 195 commission. Time will tell wether the shuffling of the deck means progress.
DUCK BOATS mean a championship. Boston pulled it off. And it feels good to me (as a Giant fan) that so many are happy with the Pats success. Tom Brady is the best ever..but was certainly blessed by a terrible “process” decision by Seattle to throw from inside the one.
Malcolm Butler prepared well and stepped in. He is the hero and was wonderfully humble in the role.
Basketball junkies..PC, URI and Bryant in the hunt…second half of league play will be compelling.
Stay warm.
