In an effort to better understand how the Rhode Island State Police operates, Governor Gina Raimondo visited the police headquarters in Scituate. Newly re-appointed Superintendent of Police Steven O’Donnell says he can’t remember the last time a governor visited for a tour in his twenty-seven years of service.
“It’s a powerful message that the elected official who leads state police and walked in and regardless of what she said, her presence here tells the men and women she cares about what they do,” said O’Donnell.
Raimondo said she wanted to get to know O’Donnell’s team and to see what the State Police wants to improve upon.
“I always ask the same question which is ‘how can we do better?’ Budgets are tight, that’s not an excuse for getting things done, this is an amazing team doing a lot; I just want to see what they’re doing and figure how we can be better,” said Raimondo.
