One day after a fire destroyed their home, Teresa Allen and her children will have presents to open Christmas morning thanks to members of the Providence fire department.
“People giving back to someone that’s lost everything is tremendous,” said Allen as she was fighting back tears.
On Wednesday, members of the Providence Fire Department who fought the blaze on Zone Street were escorted by Santa to the Comfort Inn in Pawtucket where the family is staying.
Firefighters brought bags of gifts to Teresa and her eight year old son Trermaine Haney. Santa gave Trermaine one gift which turned out to be a Nerf Football.
“It’s really a great experience knowing that when something bad happens there are people that do care,” said Allen
Providence Fire Chief Clarence Cunha says it is always a tragedy when someone loses their belongings in a fire.
“The members of the Providence Fire Department felt that we should at least give them a hand and make their Christmas the best that they could have,” said Cunha.
The three children who were hospitalized after being trapped upstairs have been released from the hospital.
