Governor-elect Gina Raimondo said the purpose of calling a policy summit together before taking the oath of office was to bring together the private sector and government together to get the state back on track.
Raimondo said Tuesday night’s policy summit was the continuation of several hundred discussions the then-Treasurer had with business leaders after she declared her candidacy for governor one year ago.
“You were asked to be here tonight because you are the ones on the front lines of Rhode Island,” said Raimondo addressing the crowd.
The event was centered on the ideas of people who have invested in Rhode Island and its success. The roughly 100 participants were broken up into groups of five, each representative of different areas of job creation: workforce development, infrastructure, small business/start-ups, hospitality, and manufacturing.
Raimondo said she would take the suggestions of those invited to the summit seriously and would consider adopting new ideas even if they conflicted with some of her own.
“I have one objective; put people back to work.”
