PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Massachusetts man has been ordered to serve 10 years in prison on charges that he killed his girlfriend when he crashed his car while drunk after a police chase in Rhode Island.
A judge sentenced 36-year-old Brandon Borge of Fall River Tuesday for driving under the influence, death resulting, and reckless driving, death resulting. He got 25 years, with all but 10 suspended.
Borge pleaded no contest in May. A spokeswoman for the state attorney general’s office says he had indicated he wanted to withdraw the plea but never did.
Borge’s girlfriend, 34-year-old Barbara Ellis, was killed in April 2012 during the high-speed chase. The car hit a concrete wall and burst into flames. Borge lost both legs.
Prosecutors say he had two previous DUI convictions in Florida.
