The inaugural committee for Governor-elect Gina Raimondo has announced plans for January 6, 2015, when the incoming governor and other General Officers take their oaths of office at noon.
The committee announced as its theme “Make It In Rhode Island”, to highlight the diversity of industry in Rhode Island; specifically the hospitality industry and WaterFire.
“I’d like to invite all Rhode Islanders to participate in the inaugural celebration,” said Raimondo in a statement.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase what we can build on for Rhode Island’s comeback,” she said.
In addition to the traditional inaugural ceremonies at the State House, a special WaterFire will also be staged that evening to welcome the new administration. The incoming General Officers will host independent after-parties at various restaurants near the river.
All of the events planned for January 6 are free to the public and will be privately funded at no expense to taxpayers. In case of bad weather, the inaugural ceremonies will be moved to the nearby Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
The inaugural committee also plans an Open House at the State House on Saturday, January 10 from 11am to 2pm, followed by a family ice skate at the Providence Rink near Kennedy Plaza from 2 to 3pm.
