PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Gov.-elect Gina Raimondo said she will reappoint two members of Lincoln Chafee’s administration, Janet Coit and A.T. Wall, to their current positions.
Raimondo said on Wednesday that Department of Environmental Management Director Janet Coit has been a strong advocate for the environment and a skilled manager of a complex department. She says Coit has a passion for conserving our natural resources.
Coit was first appointed by outgoing Gov. Lincoln Chafee in 2011.
Coit says she is honored to have the opportunity to continue serving the people of the state, and she says she is inspired by the prospect of being part of the Raimondo administration.
Likewise, the longtime head of Rhode Island’s prison system has been selected to stay on in the job under Gov.-elect Gina Raimondo.
Raimondo said she also plans on reappointing A.T. Wall as director of the Department of Corrections.
Wall has served in the job since 2000, and Raimondo calls him a national leader in corrections. She says the state is fortunate to have him in the state.
Wall says he looks forward to bringing his nearly three decades of experience to Raimondo’s team.
Wall is the longest serving-prison chief in any state in the country and has led the department during a record-setting increase in the inmate population in Rhode Island.
The Governor-elect said she will ask the senate next month to re-confirm both Coit and Wall to their jobs.
