The Navy’s Blue Angels flight demonstration team will return to Quonset next May for a second straight year, the headline act in the Rhode Island National Guard Air Show and Open House, May 30 and 31.
Members of the precision flying squadron flew into Quonset Air National Guard base Wednesday to promote the Air Show.
“The Blue Angels have been around since 1946, so there’s pretty extensive history involved here, a lot of traditions, a lot of pride in what they do,” said U.S. Marine Corps Captain Jeff Kuss, the squadron’s narrator. He describes the group’s show to the Air Show crowd.
“I’ll explain that, talk them through the maneuvers as well. The entire team will be here to take photos, answer questions and talk to the crowd,” Kuss said.
Fellow Marine Captain Corrie Mays, a native of Marstons Mills on Cape Cod said it’s “an incredible honor, it’s more than I could ask for,” to be a member of the Blue Angels.
“Being part of the Blue Angels is so special, it’s such an honor to begin with, to be able to represent our brothers and sisters in the fleet in the Navy and Marine Corps who are working around the world night and day.
“That’s such an honor in and of itself, but to be here in my backyard is so special,” said Mays, who was met by several family members as she and Captain Kuss flew in to Quonset from Virginia, a flight somewhat delayed by weather. They were to fly on to Maine later Wednesday to make a similar pre-air show appearance.
