PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The longtime head of Rhode Island’s prison system has been selected to stay on in the job under Gov.-elect Gina Raimondo.
Raimondo on Wednesday says she plans to re-appoint A.T. Wall as director of the Department of Corrections.
Wall has served in the job since 2000, and Raimondo calls him a national leader in corrections. She says the state is fortunate to have him in the state.
Wall says he looks forward to bringing his nearly three decades of experience to Raimondo’s team.
Wall is the longest serving-prison chief in any state in the country and has led the department during a record-setting increase in the inmate population in Rhode Island.
Raimondo says she will ask the senate next month to re-confirm him to the job.
