Defense attorneys for Aaron Hernandez have filed three separate motions pertaining to the release of police documents, the state prosecutor’s witness list, and items seized during a search of the ex-NFL player’s home in June of 2013.
According to documents released by the Bristol County Superior Court, the defense has asked the court to make reports, notes and witness statements collected by Massachusetts Police be made available for examination.
In addition the defense also requested prosecutors release the names of the witnesses they actually intend to call to testify against Hernandez. The defense says the state has inflated its list of witnesses to 305; a move they say “infringes” Hernandez’s constitutional rights to due process.
Lastly, the defense is also asking for the police to return items which they say were unlawfully taken during a search of Hernandez’s home in June of last year. Those items include two cell phones, three iPads, and a Hummer which was towed from an apartment in Franklin Massachusetts.
The motions were filed over the past two weeks.
Hernandez is set to stand trial for the death of amateur-football player Odin Lloyd in January.
