State and local officials gathered at the Providence Public Safety Complex to celebrate the ten year partnership between the Capital City’s police force and Family Service of Rhode Island.
The partnership was created in 2004 to help prevent crime by offering care and support services to children exposed to violence.
“All the statistics tell us that youth exposed to violence are much more likely to get involved in risky behavior, and later, much more involved in criminal activity,” said Providence Police Chief Hugh Clements.
Family Service Rhode Island CEO Margaret Holland McDuff hosted the event which also included speeches from Congressman David Cicilline and Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare.
The partnership has allowed for Family Service social workers to cross-train with police officers, as well as provide 24/7 on-call assistance at scenes of crime and violence.
