KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) – The University of Rhode Island has removed from its website a video of MIT economist Jonathan Gruber after he drew criticism for statements about the “stupidity of the American voter” being a factor in crafting the Affordable Care Act.
At an Oct. 30, 2012, lecture at URI as part of its Honors Colloquium series, Gruber said, “It’s a very clever, you know, basic exploitation of the lack of economic understanding of the American voter.”
The Providence Journal reports that the university said it needed written permission to post the lecture. The University immediately removed it from its website and contacted the agency holding the copyright of Gruber’s lecture for permission to repost.
The university said the agency will not consent to reposting the video by the university.
