PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The state medical examiner’s office has ruled that the death of an 80-year-old man who struck his head at a Providence long-term care facility was a homicide.
The Providence Journal reports that Maj. David A. Lapatin of the Providence Detective Division said Ramon Santiago was pushed and died after striking his head in Bannister House on Sept. 19. He said the medical examiner’s office notified police Sept. 26 about the death.
Lapatin said the shoulder of a 60-year-old resident came in contact with Santiago. He said police have identified the man who bumped into Santiago, but he has yet to face criminal charges.
Lapatin says Providence detectives will speak with prosecutors from the state attorney general’s office to determine if Santiago’s death is a murder or should be classified as manslaughter.
