Governor-elect Gina Raimondo said she wants State Police Colonel Steven O’Donnell to stay on the job in her new administration.
In a statement, Raimondo said she wants O’Donnell to continue his role as Superintendent of the State Police.
“With more than three decades in law enforcement experience, I am confident that Colonel O’Donnell continues to be the best person to lead the dedicated men and women of the Rhode Island State Police,” said Raimondo in a statement.
Both parties agreed to the re-appointment.
O’Donnell has served as head of the State Police and the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety since he was appointed by Governor Lincoln Chafee in 2011.
O’Donnell served in the State Police for over 25 years.
