As the light blue ribbon falls to the floor, Turning Point II is now open in Providence. The housing development has 14 rental homes available for veterans.
“Too many Rhode Island veterans struggle to find a good place to live and the support needed to deal with the causes of their homelessness,” said Senator Sheldon White House.
Located in the Elmhurst neighbor of Providence, Turning Point II is close to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, transportation, shopping and recreational areas.
“The number of homeless veterans in Rhode Island is a target that we can solve. We can eliminate homelessness, all we have to do is work together,” said Rhode Island Housing Executive Director Richard Godfrey.
The opening of Turning Point II came hours after another housing development was opened in Westerly for veterans.
“With two separate ribbon cuttings, we increased the amount of affordable housing, permanent supportive housing for veterans by fifteen percent,” said Godfrey.
He adds putting more people into housing will save taxpayers by giving veterans a place to live.
