PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island’s health insurance marketplace is offering new plans and a new carrier in the individual market when open enrollment begins Nov. 15.
HealthSource RI announced premiums Thursday for the 40 individual and small group plans being sold in 2015 on the marketplace, which is part of the federal health care overhaul. That’s up from 28 plans.
UnitedHealthcare is a new insurer for individual coverage.
HealthSource Director Christine Ferguson says consumers will have more choice and that some plans will cost less, though most cost more.
The premium for a 50-year-old ranges from $281 a month for a “bronze” plan to $534 for a “gold” plan. Co-insurance and deductibles vary. Many people will qualify for tax credits.
About 26,300 individuals have signed up to date. Open enrollment begins Nov. 15.
