State Police are investigating a video which reportedly shows State Representative Scott Slater with a mail ballot inside a Providence home for the elderly.
The Providence Journal reports the video was taken outside the Providence Housing Authority’s Kilmartin Plaza low-rise, at 160 Benedict St.
State law says campaign workers are allowed to collect sealed mail-in ballots, however collecting a blank ballot is a felony offense.
Slater has endorsed Jorge Elorza for Mayor of Providence according to the candidate’s website.
Jorge Elorza said he has already contacted the Board of Elections.
“I’m concerned anytime [fraud] happens, and absolutely I want a full investigation regardless of who is involved,” said Elorza.
The Associated Press reports the Elorza campaign submitted a letter to the Board of Elections to investigate the matter further.
Last week, State Police began investigating two Providence Police officers who illegally collected ballots at the Crossroads homeless shelter; both were volunteers for independent Buddy Cianci.
