The three candidates for governor were out campaigning Monday morning at the annual Autumnfest parade in Woonsocket.
Democrat Gina Raimondo and Republican Allan Fung are both expecting visits to Rhode Island by high-profile political figures on their behalf this week, entering the final weeks of the election.
Raimondo said she is excited about President Obama’s second visit to the Ocean State, tentatively set for Thursday.
“He’s a defender of the middle class, a supporter of manufacturing jobs which is a big part of my program here trying to bring manufacturing jobs back to Rhode Island,” said Raimondo.
Fung will also benefit as former Presidential candidate Mitt Romney arrives in Rhode Island for a fundraiser on the same day as President Obama. Following last weeks’ appearance by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Fung called the support by Republicans amazing.
“It’s a very exciting time to have a lot of national leaders on the Republican side coming to campaign for me,” said Fung, “We’re coming to the last 22 days before election day and it’s looking good.”
Neither candidate said they were concerned about the others endorsements.
Meanwhile, former Cool Moose turned Moderate Party Candidate Bob Healey also worked the parade, he said this race has been unlike any other he has run.
“Having done this for so many years, the reaction this year has been much different than any one in the past,” said Healey, “I’ve run six times in the past on the statewide level and I’ve never had the reception I’m getting now.”
Healey said he wouldn’t know how close he is to his opponents until Election Day.
