Angel Taveras, Clay Pell and members of the state’s Democratic party leadership came together Friday to stand behind candidate for governor Gina Raimondo.
“It’s a show of unity, it’s a show of teamwork, it’s a show that everyone here is serious about coming together, putting aside personal differences and working hard as a team to move Rhode Island forward,” said Raimondo.
The delegation met at a career and technical academy in Cranston, the hometown of Raimondo’s Republican opponent Allan Fung.
Both Taveras and Pell said there was no bad blood between the candidates and that they will work to support the Democrat party.
“I want to be able to tell my daughter I helped elect the first woman governor of the state of Rhode Island,” said Taveras, “That’s important to me.”
Raimondo said she feels the state’s Democratic party is focused on the task at hand.
“I think what you see here today, the federal delegation, Clay and Angel, we’re all together, we’re all on the same page; let’s get a Democrat elected governor for the first time in over 20 years in this state, and most of all let’s get focused on getting people back to work.”
