Moderate Party candidate for governor Bob Healey says he will represent himself at the board of election hearing on the validity of his candidacy.
The Rhode Island GOP filed a complaint to the Board of Elections earlier in the week saying the Moderate party did not follow the proper protocol when they replaced their original candidate for governor, James Spooner.
Spooner dropped out of the race citing medical issues.
Healey told WPRO’s Tara Granahan not only will he represent himself in Wednesday’s hearing, but he also been given authorization to be the Moderate party’s attorney of record.
The GOP’s complaint also claims Moderate party chairman William Gilbert is not officially recognized by the state as the party’s leader.
Gilbert will not be in attendance at the hearing, saying he is on a cruise in Mexico.
