A little over a week after Aaron Hernandez’s home was searched in connection to a homicide, he has been escorted from his house in handcuffs by police.
According to a released statement, he was arrested by Massachusetts State Police and North Attleboro Police at approximately 8:47 on Wednesday morning. He will be arraigned at Attleboro District Court.
Media has been camped outside the former Patriots Tight End home in North Attleboro since the body of Odin Lloyd, 27, was found in an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez’s house. Lloyd was shot multiple times.
The New England Patriots said in a statement on their website that they have released Hernandez following his arrest.
“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
Massachusetts State Police tweeted out Wednesday morning, “We are not releasing the charge against Hernandez until it is presented to the court. Again, he will be arraigned in Attleboro Court today,”
District Attorney Samuel Sutter says he will meet with the press and issue a statement after Hernandez’s arraignment.
