BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) – A 30-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested after police identified him from an Internet video showing two men scaling the Mount Hope Bridge in Bristol.
Police have charged Christopher Aguiar with trespassing.
They tell WLNE-TV they began investigating after the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority alerted them to a video that showed up on YouTube in February. The video is of two men climbing to the top of the bridge's north tower, while a third man narrates the stunt.
They were able to trace the video to Aguiar through several social media sites.
Police say they have also identified a second man in the video, but said he remains at large.
Signs posted at either end of the bridge warn that climbing it is prohibited for safety reasons.
