PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) – National Weather Service flood warnings are in effect for areas along the Pawtuxet and Pawcatuck rivers from another round of heavy rains in Rhode Island.
Forecasters say runoff from overnight rain is continuing to flow into the Pawtuxet River. The water level is expected to keep rising and crest on Wednesday afternoon at around 11 feet, two feet above flood stage.
Moderate flooding affecting parts of Providence and Kent counties is expected.
Forecasters say that more than two inches of rain also fell in western Washington County, causing flooding on the Pawcatuck. The flood warning there is in effect until Tuesday evening.
A flood watch has been issued for other parts of the state.
Ron Johnson of Warwick kayaks Tuesday on the rain-swollen Pawtuxet River. He warns: don't try this, he's been at it for 30 years.
