Naval War College Professor, Dr. Marc Genest, responds to an article published on the 630WPRO.com website entitled: "Bomber was "Montana whack job" or Al Qaeda operative," which he feels was misleading. The article was since removed from our site due to the unusually high volume of negative backlash Mr. Genest received. We stand by our editorial decision to publish the story, but have allowed Mr. Genest to issue a response to clarify statements he made to WPRO's Buddy Cianci, in which he off-handedly speculated that the Boston Marathon bomber might be a "far right-wing Montana whack job." His statment appears below:
I am wrting to clarify my statements surrounding the Wednesday, April 17 article posted on the WPRO website with the sensationalist and misleading headline containing the phrase "Montana whack job"
The headline of the article did not accurately reflect my analysis of whether the culprits were domestic or international terrorists. I used a poor choice of words when referring to the potential that a Unabomber type of lone-wolf terrorist might very well be responsible for the Boston Marathon attack. I certainly had no intention of insulting anyone from the great state of Montana. Having traveled several times to Montana I can attest that it is a beautiful state with patriotic and caring people.
Given the tragic events of the last several days, I urge everyone to focus on more important issues than an article posted on a radio station website. May I suggest that we turn our attention to things that actually matter such as the victims of this heinous attack.
Very respectfully,
Marc Genest
