It was media day for the newest roster of Pawtucket Red Sox Tuesday. The 2013 team gathered at McCoy Stadium for their annual introduction to local media, despite the weather feeling anything like baseball season.
“I’m really excited to see some of those kids play,” new PawSox manager Gary DiSarcina told WPRO.
The PawSox will play their season opener on Thursday in Moosic, Pennsylvania. Their first home game will be April 11.
“Winning’s fun, winning’s exciting, that’s what it’s about when you come to the ballpark every day, but ultimately it’s to get these guys back to the big leagues, or to the big leagues for the first time,” DiSarcina said.
Last year the PawSox won their first International League Championship title in 28 years. This year, DiSarcina said they’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
“We can’t duplicate what happened last year, it’s unfair to this group of players,” he said. “But we can forge our own way and write our own story and go about our business the right way.”
First baseman Mark Hamilton said the team will have to hit the field and see how they stack up against the competition – though he’s confident in his teammates’ abilities.
“We’ve got a great team,” he said. “We’ve got a winning group is it seems.”
