PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The owner of Rhode Island's tallest building says it will no longer light up the Providence skyline after it becomes vacant next month.
Bill Fischer, spokesman for High Rock Development, tells The Associated Press on Thursday that only a bare amount of exterior lighting will be maintained at the so-called Superman building after the end of April, when Bank of America's lease expires.
That means the blue light at the top of the city skyline's most recognizable building, which can be seen as far away as Massachusetts, will no longer be turned on. Fischer says the lights that illuminate the 1928 art deco-style building's facade will be kept to a minimum, if they're lit at all.
Fischer says it's too expensive to keep the lights on without a tenant.
