On Wednesday Brown University sent out a letter to students warning that a gastrointestinal virus was rapidly spreading across the campus.
In three days, 67 students had fallen ill to what the Department of Health later confirmed was norovirus. According to a spokeswoman, the spread of the illness, which caused vomitting, nausea and diarrhea, has since slowed. Only an additional five students reported an illness to Brown, bringing the total of sick students to 72.
Spokesman Darlene Trew Crist said she believes the letter helped inform students on how to slow the spred of the virus.
The University will go on spring break at the end of classes today.
