PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island lawyer charged with embezzling nearly $145,000 from an elderly client has been suspended from practicing law.
The state Supreme Court on Monday ordered Janet A. Mastronardi's license to practice law suspended on an interim basis. The court says she did not object to the suspension.
The 52-year-old lawyer lives in Warwick. She was arrested last week by state police, who say she may have gambled some of the money away at Connecticut casinos.
Mastronardi did not immediately return a message left at her law office in East Greenwich.
