A 15-year-old boy attacked his 63-year-old female neighbor Wednesday night, according to Attleboro Police.
During an investigation, the police learned that the 15-year-old entered the woman’s residence on Cumberland Avenue (inset) in Attleboro and attacked the woman. During the attack and subsequent struggle, the woman sustained multiple stab wounds to her neck and torso.
Then the boy took the woman against her will to a second location near the Seekonk line where he removed her from the car and dragged her into a pond in an attempt to drown her. Unsuccessful, the boy put the woman back in the car and drove to a third location where her attempted to clog her tailpipe with an article of clothing to asphyxiate her.
While the boy was doing this, the woman was able to get free, get behind the driver’s wheel and flee, leaving the suspect behind.
The woman drove herself to Sturdy Hospital where police were contacted. The victim was treated and
transported to Rhode Island Hospital; her wounds are described as non-life threatening.
The 15-year-old, who returned home, was arrested by Attleboro Police a short time after the incident was reported.
The male currently stands charged with Attempted Murder, Home invasion, Kidnapping, Assault with Intent to murder, Intimidation of a Witness, Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License and Assault and Battery Upon a Person over 60 thereby causing Injury. The juvenile was held at the Attleboro Police Department until he was transferred to Taunton Juvenile Court for arraignment.
During the investigation, police learned that evidence may have been discarded at or near Studley Elementary or Brennan Middle School. Officers conducted a search of the area throughout the early morning hours. Officers completed their search and cleared the schools shortly before classes began. Attleboro Police assure parents that neither school was involved in this incident and students were not in danger.
The incident remains under investigation and officers are seeking a search warrant to search for potential evidence. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Attleboro Police Department at 508-222-1212.
