The “bearded bandit” plead guilty to nine counts of bank robbery Thursday in U.S. District Court.
Justin Worley, 34, was arrested in Seekonk in September after surveillance footage showed him robbing nine different banks in Rhode Island last year. During those robberies, Worley wore a fake beard and became known as the “bearded bandit.”
At his hearing, Worley sported a real goatee and mustache.
Worley admitted that he stole a total of $32,633 from the banks, but contested the prosecutor’s claim that he threatened the life of the tellers in his robberies.
Worley is scheduled to be sentenced on May 24 and could face up to 180 years in prison and $2.5 million in fines.
Worley has been in federal custody since November.
