With another winter storm forecast for this weekend, is Rhode Island on track for the snowiest February? It doesn't look like it.
According to the National Weather Service, here are the top five snowiest Februaries on record:
1. 1962: 30.9 inches
2. 1978: 28.6 inches
3. 1968: 26.7 inches
4. 2003: 24.7 inches
5. 1994: 25.8 inches
Current snowfall for February 2013 is 23.9 inches, and this weekend's storm is predicted to add another 1 to 3 inches to that.
It doesn't look like we'll have a shot at breaking the record for snowiest season, either.
1. 1947-48: 72.9 inches
2. 2004-05: 72.5 inches
3. 1977-78: 70.2 inches
4. 1993-94: 63.5 inches
5. 1960-61: 62.7 inches
The current seasonal snowfall for 2012-2013 is only 41.0 inches. The average seasonal snowfall is 35.8 inches.
