PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Advocates for the homeless are holding a memorial service for those who died without shelter last year.
The service is scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in downtown Providence. Organizers say it will celebrate the "strength and spirit" of homeless Rhode Islanders who died in 2012.
A similar service last year honored nearly three dozen homeless men and women, including some who died while living on the streets.
The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless says that over 4,400 people experience homelessness in the state every year.
