PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A former Chariho school committee member has been found guilty of violating Rhode Island's social host law but spared prison time.
The Providence Journal reports that a state judge on Monday gave Terri Serra a six-month suspended prison sentence. She was placed on six months of probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. She also must perform 100 hours of community service.
The paper reports the judge found Serra knowingly allowed individuals under 21 to consume alcohol and marijuana on her Richmond property in October.
Several high school students who were there were seriously injured when their car crashed later in Charlestown.
Serra was previously found not guilty of failing to render aid at the crash scene after she happened upon the accident while driving another boy home.
