A local surgeon on leave from Kent Hospital has had his license suspended by Rhode Island health officials.
According to the Associated Press, the state Department of Health said that Dr. Michael Coburn admitted to injecting himself with pain medication.
Officials say another doctor witnessed him take syringes from an operating room. After a search of the room he slept in at the hospital, needles, syringes, blood-soaked gauze and vial caps were found. The AP reports that Dr. Coburn admitted that the items were his.
He was placed on medical leave at Kent Hospital on November 15.
