PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Providence bar that allegedly bribed former Rhode Island House Speaker Gordon Fox in order to get a liquor license has been sold.

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday approved the sale of the Shark Sushi Bar & Grill for $300,000 to an investor group.

Stephen Del Sesto, the bar’s court-appointed receiver, says the sale is contingent upon the new owners getting a new liquor license.

Prosecutors say the bar paid Fox $52,500 in 2008 for help obtaining a license. Fox was the vice chairman of the board at the time.

The bar’s owners filed a petition in March to place the business in receivership after the city’s Board of Licenses moved to vacate the bar’s licenses.

Fox is serving a three-year prison sentence for bribery, wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
